This last stint here in Germany has been one of my hardest from being home sick. After being on the road for most of the year so far I'm ready to be done living in hotels and get back to leading a "normal" life. For those that have done a fair amount of traveling from time to time you get what I call "travel depression". It's where you've been away from friends and family too long and you just don't really have the urge to go out and do anything. For instance this week ever since I got back from my trip to Lyon, France I've pretty much just went to work and came back to the hotel. Some nights I have just gotten room service and vegged out all night in front of the TV. I guess that is what I would do at home but when you are in a foreign country it feels like you should go out every night for a fancy dinner and experience the culture. Anyways I'm excited to get home and be with the family for a while.

This weekend I decided to head down to Lyon, France to visit a friend I hadn't seen in nearly 25 years. Funny part is they actually live in Des Moines, Iowa and happened to be over in France to visit family. I figured I didn't really have anything going on so figured why not head down and visit. Plus it gave me an opportunity to blast down the autobahn at 121 miles an hour.
One thing I don't think I've documented on my blog about Germany is the concept of pay bathrooms. All of the gas stations off of the autobahn have bathrooms about like these here where you have to pay 0.75 Euro's to use the facility. The first time I encounter these I was on the way down to Austria a few months back and couldn't figure it out at first. As far as I can tell Germany seems to be the only European country that has these. It's something to keep in mind if your ever over here, always have change for the bathroom in Germany.

My German Sim card ended up running out of money today and I still have a week to go so I figured I better head up town to get it refilled for my final week here in Germany and the weekend trip I have planned to Lyon, France. While I was up here I stopped into Lowenbrau for a quick lunch. Here are a few pictures I took while I was having lunch.

After managing to be away from Germany for a full 4 weeks I'm back in Heidelberg for another two week stint. Two weeks is a long time but way better then the 5 weeks i was here earlier in the year. Today i plan to head up to my favorite Germany restaurant for a bratwurst, kraut and a beer.

Here I am at the airport once again flying off to Germany for another two week stint. Been a pretty tough travel schedule for me so far this year, I counted yesterday and so far this year I've only spent 24 nights at home in my own bed. After this trip I will have 8 weeks in Germany since January with 5 more weeks before I'm considered an illegal immigrant of the country. After this trip I'm thinking I will be done headed to Germany for awhile but who knows. The way travel works for me is i find out at the last minute and have to go out for weeks at a time so who knows where I will be next.

Today I headed up to Delafield, Wisconsin to get fit for me new bike. It's been about a year and a half since I've really for a triathlon but after this is the year I'm back in. I didn't post it but about 2 weeks ago I started training hard again and really didn't have any intentions of getting a new bike but the deal on this bike was too good to pass up. This was a "Superbike" from 2013 and they were selling for more then half price and given I was in the market I decided to pull the trigger. I drove up today to get fitted and will have to drive back up after I get back from Germany to pick it up when they finish building it but it's worth it. Looking forward to getting back into shape again!
Today in a rare occurrence I took the day off and headed to Wisconsin to get fit for my new bike. On Sunday I saw a Facebook post for these 2013 Cervelo P5 Six Red bikes for over half off. I called them up and got my name on a list and actually am going to get one. So today I have to drive the 7 hour round trip to get fit for the bike so they can finish the build for me. Really excited to get a new bike, it's been a long time.

Today I found out that I'm going to have to head back to Germany for another two weeks for work again. Every time I think I think I've reached the maximum amount I can travel the travel gods that be one up me and put me back on the round. After this trip I will have spent a total of 8 weeks in Europe since January 1st, which is thinking back is a lot of time in Europe. I looked on line and found out that I can be in Europe for 90 days in 180 before I'm considered in violation of my Visa. That means I can be Germany another 5 weeks after this trip before June 1st which I'm hoping should be plenty.

Feeling like a regular family man, two weekends in a row at home, no work, no anything. The plan is to play some video games with the boys, watch some TV and just relax and enjoy a little normal life for a bit. Right now it's not looking like I'll have to head out on the road again anytime soon but I've found that just because I don't know anything today doesn't mean I won't be out again tomorrow. Unless my boss calls, which would be out of the ordinary but not surprising, I'm home again for another full week and I intend to take advantage.

For my first weekend full weekend home in a heck on a long time, the boys and I decided that we should hang out in the video game room and play some Xbox One. Since Christmas was cut short and I was on the road for the past couple months seemed like a great opportunity to reconnect with the boys and get beat in Overwatch for the next 4 hours. I remember when I introduced the boys to video games and I let them win. Now I'm just canon fodder for these two kids. Hard to get old and start getting beat by your kids.

Jen doesn't have quite as much expeirence with the travel life as I do and as you can see it's readily apparent. I was sitting in the living room watching TV and come walking into the Den and see Jen asleep with her dog. I guess this week tooks it's toll on Jen and she isn't quite ready for the jetset lifestyle. Although to be fair when Jen leaves for a week there is a whole lot more things to deal with then I have to deal with when I get home.

We are stuck in Atlanta waiting on our plane which has been delayed by 3 hours, uggghhhh. To add to the weirdness of the trip there is a grown man dressed as a Pokemon waiting on our plane. I know Donald Trump is all freaked out about Muslims on planes but a grown man dress as a Pokemon riding around in a wheel chair seems like the kind of person we shouldn't let fly. This dude has to be total looney tunes but I guess he is amusing while we wait. I'm sure there is quite the story with this dude.
After an amazing week with the wife in Florida for the EOTY trip and a small vacation we are headed home. While I'm on the road a lot there is a big difference between business travel and vacation travel. I'm going to have to use some of my airline miles and hotel rewards to take the family on another vacation again soon. I have to say this, I have to credit Jen for this whole week. She has been there at home supporting me in my career so I could get to opportunity to do things that get me nominated for this award. I can't say enough how much I appreciate what she does and there is no way I could possibly repay her.
After three awesome days and Universal Studios with Jen we are leaving and headed to the airport. One would think the last thing that 2 adults want to do for vacation is head to an amusement park but we had a really great time. I suppose we are both still kids are heart and enjoy getting to experience Harry Potter world first hand. Funny part is I could come here every year, I enjoy it that much. Might have to come down again next year with the kids :)
Here are some pictures from our last day at the park. We are both pretty tired from 3 pretty long days at the amusement park but we have had a great time. Have to say if we come again we will stay in a hotel with Unlimited Express Pass and come at a non-busy time of year. Not that we didn't enjoy the last trip with the kids but it's way better when the crowds aren't crazy and you get on every ride in just a couple minutes.
