Today was our second day at the park and turns out it was Fat Tuesday as well. We got up early so we could get our extra hour at Harry Potter land and stayed late so we could see the Mardi Gras parade. Been a fun day, not very busy and warm enough to go on the water rides. Not exited to end our vacation tomorrow but we are excited to get home to see the kids!

When Jen and I checked into our hotel we found out that they tickets I bought for the park were 2 day + 2 day tickets which means we could go to the park today. Totally unexpected and totally freaking awesome. Of course we jetted right over to Harry Potter Land and Dr. Suess land to take it all in. Our hotel is within walking distance of the parks too so we don't have to fight the horrible Orlando traffic to and from the park and can really relax and enjoy this part of our trip.
After a weekend at the Engineer Of The Year trip Jen and I are headed to Orlando for our extended portion of the trip. We caught the bus over to airport with one of the executives I know fairly well got our rental car and headed out. It's a 3 hour drive up to Orlando but it doesn't look like too bad of drive. Been a great vacation so far and I'm sure it's just going to better.

Tonight was the pinnacle of the Engineer of The Year Trip, the banquet. This is the part that the CEO and all of his staff fly down and celebrate the EOTY achievement with us. It really didn't dawn on me until this evening what a big deal being named an Engineer Of the Year is until I saw the CEO and all of his staff. The fact that they make time to fly down to attend the event and personally hand our our awards as well as make time to mingle with us is a big deal. Getting an opportunity to speak to each of our senior executives and having them congratulate felt good. This is probably a once in a career thing and it was really cool as an old truck driver and shoe salesman to get this opportunity.
After a couple full days of activities today was the day we got to do what we wanted before the big banquet tonight. We talked for the past few days about what we wanted to do today but ultimately decided on sleeping in and hanging by the pool. Feels nice to just relax a bit and take in the warm Florida weather. Plus it's nice to get a bit of down time before the big event tonight. Kind of funny that this an award banquet but I'm as nervous as I am before an Ironman race. I suppose it's because all of the executives of the company are coming down and is a great opportunity to say and do something stupid. Seems really stupid when you think about it but doesn't change the fact I'm nervous as hell.

After a day sailing and a fancy lunch we headed out to dinner and a show. So I had never heard of Terry Fator before but I guess he won America Has Talent some years ago. He is a ventriloquist and has a number of puppets he does the act with. The show was all right, if not a bit surreal. Can't say I have ever seen a grown map do a puppet show for adults before. It was funny but I'll say I probably wouldn't buy tickets myself to the show. Anyways they all can't be winners, tomorrow is our day to do what we want and then the big banquet where the executives come down. I have to say I'm a bit nervous.
Today the group activity was sailing to an island to go shelling. It was a perfect to go out on the boat sailing, it was low 80's, sunny and calm seas. As we were heading out of the bay the captain was pointing out all the multi-million dollar homes on the shore and who owned them. When you see the size of the these home and the amount you cost it really puts into perspective your own life. I guess that's why you take vacation so you can experience a bit of life you normally wouldn't get too. As we were headed out of the bay we did see some dolphins which was cool. Going to be hard when to trip ends it's been pretty cool so far.

After we got back from our trip to the Edison estate and our group dinner we had some time to wander around the hotel before we headed to bed. Jen and I decided to get a drink and sit outside and enjoy the nice south Florida weather. While we were sitting there I snapped this picture of the fountains we were sitting near.
The first activity at the Engineer of the year event was a tour of the Edison & Ford estate. They got a tour bus for all of the engineer of the year trip participants which is nice so we don't have to ride in a bunch of separate cars. So far the trip has been very nice and a great experience and I'm looking forward to what the rest of the weekend has in store.
