Relaxing Day

After getting home fairly late last night and it being a cold crappy day the family decided to have a day laying around playing video games and power streaming our favorite videos.  While you kind of feel like a big turd when you lay around all day it sure is nice to do nothing.  Plan to not be "ploppy" tomorrow but today I'm going to lay in my chair and not feel bad.

Kasey Musgraves Concert

Tonight Jen and I drove down to Des Moines to go to the Kasey Musgraves concert at Hoyt Sherman Place.  I have never been to a concert here before but it is a pretty neat venue, very small and intimate.  Kind of feels like she is playing your own private concert.  The concert was great but I have to say that the amount of people talking during the show was absurd.  I mean come on you came down to enjoy a concert and to spend the entire time talking over it seems pretty freak dumb and very rude to those around you.  I guess just a symptom of less courteous society these days.  Not looking forward to the 3 hour drive home now and getting home after midnight but is was worth it.

Clancey's New House

This morning as I was getting ready to head out to work the family was working on putting together Claney's new cardboard house.  I was thinking back to when I was a kid and had a Mickey Mouse cardboard house.  Although I have to say this one is way better because you can actually color it the way you want.

Nice Day

Jen got back this afternoon and we decided it was a good day to work in the yard and enjoy the day. I was working on cleaning the pool and getting the lawn mowed while Jen worked in her garden. The boys helped pick up some sticks and then played in the yard.

Marshall Driving the First Time

Marshall's First Driving Lesson

Today after Marshall and I got back from Davenport, and realized we won't be the pool filled up in time to vacuum, we decided we had some time to kill.  I figured what better way to spend the time then to take Marshall out for his first driving lesson.  Unlike the city where there are a ton of places to practive there isn't a lot of choice out here.  We thought about the gravel road but there are still too many car's, especially during planting season, where we ended up was the St. Cemetery.  Marshall did really good and I was impressed with is ability to get around a fairly tight area.  We spend probably a good 45 minutes driving around without incident.  Going to need to spend more time practicing this way and maybe we can move out the gravel roads and go a bit faster.  I took some video's that I'm uploading right now.  I'm sure you will be able to see how nervous I was ;)

Pool is a Swamp

Well I got Clancey to his soccer this morning, a few minutes late, and off to his sleep over.  Now Marshall and I are going to attack the pool.  As you can see the pool is a swamp and is dire need of some love and chemicals.  We're headed off to Davenport to get the things we need and then we will see what we can do to get it going.  I'm thinking that I'm not going to be able to do much today because I'll have to wait for it to fill up but I do want to get the chemicals circulating tonight so I can start vacuuming tomorrow.

Dad's In Charge This Weekend

Jen had to head out of town for a couple nights which leave me in charge for the weekend.  Tonight I had to take Clancey over to soccer in Cedar Rapids and get supper handled.  Not too hard since there are plenty of places to eat in CR and I'm pretty familiar with the road between CR and Clarence.  Tomorrow it's more soccer for Clancey in Clarence and then he is off to stay over night with a friend.  I assure it was pre-arraigned I was not trying to dump my kid on people because I was alone for the evening.  Marshall and I are going to head to Davenport to get stuff to get the pool opened up and then I'm not sure what we will do.  I'm sure we will find a way to spend the time though.

Officially Published

This morning at 1 or 2 am central time the OpenGL SC 2.0 standard was posted to the web and I officially became a published person. For the past few months I've been traveling to the Khronos Face 2 Face conference to work with group of safety critical engineers to define a new graphics standard for the avionics industry.  I guess we didn't so much create anything new but used our knowledge of safety critical system's to created a slimmed down version of OpenGL that we could get safety certification on.  Here is a link to the standard, my name is listed on page 159 of the standard in the acknowledgements section.  Seems like it was just yesterday I was taking my first OpenGL class in college.

Back Home

After 63 holes of golf and staying up late with friends I'm home and tired as heck.  Had a great time and hope that I make the cut for next year's golf trip.  Although I'm probably going to sleep from now until Monday morning.  At least this is the last major trip I have planned until June.  So assuming nothing comes up I get some well needed home time.

Osage National

Turns out I was right about my golfing ability, I was the number 7 golfer out of 8 yesterday at our first course.  Today I'm paired up with the second best golfer to play 27 holes here at Osage National.  It has been a beautiful weekend so far and looks be this way the rest of the weekend.  It is also a plus that this is spectacular course to play on.  Looking forward to a fun day.

Made It

Just got to our condo in the Ozarks for our weekend of golf.  We have a tee time scheduled for an hour an a half from now so we have plenty of time for lunch.  Today we play our own balls to set scores for the 2 man best ball the other two days.  I'm guessing I'll be one of the worst golfers here which is alright because I'll get paired up with a good golfer for the rest of the weekend.

Golf Weekend Coming Up

Tomorrow I leave for a guys golf weekend with a bunch of friends from work.  This has been an annual thing for the past 8 years but this year I made the cut and got an official invite.  Should be a good time, we leave tomorrow at 6:30 am and head to the Ozarks an golf 63 holes over a 3 day time frame.  Given I haven't swung a golf club much over the past 6 months I'm pretty sure I'll be really sore when I get back.

Library Grand Opening

Today was the library grand opening here in Clarence.  While it's been open for a few weeks now this was the official grand opening for the public.  As esteemed members of the community Jen and I had to make an appearance at the opening.  I'm still amazed we were able to get it built after all the road blocks along the way.  I'm happy we did because it's a showcase of the community now!

Booksale

We made it down to the book sale and are getting ready to fill air bags for all kinds of stuff. Every year the boys managed to pick up about 2 to 3 full bags of books so we'll see how we do this year. With the boys being Avid readers we don't mind letting the boys take out as many as they want. When we first walked in the line was almost across the whole building, it has settled down somewhat so we shouldn't have to wait very long at the checkout.

Papa's Birthday

After getting back home from San Antonio yesterday we all piled in the car and headed to Ames for Papa's Birthday. After being gone for a whole week it was nice to get together and be able to see everyone. It is hard to not be in 80 degree weather like I have been for the past few weeks. After we get done here and aims at Hickory Park I think the plan is to head to Des Moines to the book sale.

Last Day for Jen

Today is the last day Jen is going to be here before I take her to the airport tomorrow.  This afternoon I have a meeting to go to but this morning we had some time to get a boat tour in.  The Riverwalk boat tour is apparently the thing to do in San Antonio so of course we had to check it out.  It was a pretty good tour and now I'm an expert at San Antonio Riverwalk history.  To bad Jen leaves tomorrow morning, now it's time to work and hang with work folks not as good as being with the wife.

Segway Ghost Tour

Wow, that was an adventure, between Dave and the Sport Clip girls I'm surprised no one is dead.  Now I do have to say it was fun but once again Wow, where do I start.  When Jen and I got on our Segway's it was a bit weird and tough at first but we both figured it out pretty quickly, the Sport Clip girls not so much.  First one was of the Sport Clip girls was  pregnant and wasn't really supposed to be riding but demanded to ride and the young guys didn't know what to do but let her go.  At least she didn't crash, which I can't say for the rest of them.  There were so many Sport Clip girls hitting the pavement I was sure we were going to have our tour cut short and then Dave was something else.  Dave was like a 60 year old 2nd grader. Didn't listen to a word anyone told him kept driving off with his Segway and the tour guides would have to chase him down and would talk on the phone while the tour guides told the ghost stories.  He was something else.  Well Jen and I had a great time and certainly have a bunch of stories to tell.  What a night.

Alamo Picture #2

If you have one Alamo picture you should at least have two.  Not much to report just figured I should post our second Alamo pictures.  Betting tonight on the Segway's we will get another chance to take a picture.

Riverwalk

Here we are on the Riverwalk enjoying a great 80 degree day and some Tex Mex food.  If you've never been to the Riverwalk it's a spectacular area to visit.  It's this very picturesque area in the center of San Antonio which, when you are on the Riverwalk it's hard to believe you are in the center of a city.  Plan to walk around here for the afternoon and get ready for our ghost tour this evening.

San Antonio

We made it too San Antonio and after a quick walk through the Riverwalk area, which is really cool by the way, we made our way to the Alamo.  Just like Orlando a couple weeks ago this place is busy as hell but it is pretty neat to have a picture in front of the Alamo with Jen.  Tomorrow were planning to really explore the Riverwalk and take a Segway Ghost tour.  That should be an adventure.

Headed to San Antonio

Today I'm headed to San Antonio for a week but I have Jen with me for a few days.  Since I've been traveling so much lately I have tons of frequent flying miles so I can fly Jen down with me for free to get a taste of the location.  Never been to San Antonio before but I hear the Riverwalk is a pretty nice area.  Guessing I'm going to get a whole lot of really good mexican food this next week.  Also being the gentleman I am, I got upgraded to First class on my flight from Minneapolis to San Antonio so I decided to let Jen have my seat and see what it's like in first class.  Not as good as International First Class but it's not too bad.
