Lazy Rainy Sunday

Today turned into a very lazy rainy Sunday afternoon.  We had plans of getting some yard work done but about 9am it started to rain and it rained off and on all day which meant no yard work.  Didn't really break my heart, I was still pretty tired from my crazy workouts the past few days, sitting around and playing video games is just what I needed.  As you can see from the picture above we all kind of did our own thing but each of us enjoyed ourselves.  To be honest if it was up to Clancey he would spend the whole summer in his pajamas ;)

Outdoor Movie

After I got home from my ride of the course we all headed up to the Clarence Park for the evening "Park Day" activities.  This evening it was an outdoor showing of "Old Yeller".  We ended up staying until around 9:30, we didn't get through the whole movie because of the mosquitoes but it was alright, nobody wanted to see Old Yeller get shot.  Clancey can live in gleeful ignorance that Old Yeller lived happily ever after.

Riding the Ironman Course

Today a friend, who is doing Ironman Wisconsin for the first time, and I drove up early in the morning to ride 2 loops of the Ironman bike course.  Unlike the last time I rode the course, about a month ago, the weather was perfect.  Low 70's all day, no humidity, and very little traffic.  The ride went well, little slower than normal since my friend is a bit slower than me.  When I got done I felt fine no neck pain, no butt pain, and not very tired.  Feel like this has been a turning point week for training if I had too I could do Ironman next weekend.

Busy Week

This week has been a very busy week once again and has been short on blog updates.  This week, in addition to Belin-Blank for Marshall in the afternoon was swim lesson's in the morning.  For me I've been working on this major bid and proposal effort at work which has been deemed as a "must win".  That has meant getting back from work later most evenings, hoping it should be done by the end of next week.

Anyways both boys passed swim their swim lessons today.  Marshall passed the last class he can take and Clancey passed the 2nd to last so he only have one more year of swim lessons to go.  At Belin-Blank Marshall gave his final presentation today which didn't go as good as he wanted.  It wasn't that he gave a poor presentation it was that the thing was setup as a science fair but the room had horrible acoustics.  That meant the iPad presentation that Marshall had put together hardly anyone could hear and no one really went around to see all the presentations.  He was pissed about that but he did enjoy the class so the thing wasn't a total bust.  Hopefully next year it goes better.

Tomorrow I'm headed up to Madison to do my second ride of the Ironman bike course for the year so it's going to be a long day for me.  Wish me luck.

Pool Party Attempt #2

Today after Jen got back from church we headed for lunch up town and then had our second attempt at a pool party.  This time went way better and we were able to actually get in the pool and enjoy the afternoon.  Like always I got my GoPro out to take a couple videos and some pictures.  As you can see I ended up getting a pretty good one of all of us together.  Tomorrow when I get to work and have faster internet I'll upload the videos.

Cousins Hanging Out

Right before Mike left with Olivia, Michelle wasn't able to come over she had to work, all the kids posed on the couch for a picture.  Olivia did a good job today and the boys were awesome and took all afternoon to play with her.  She had a good time in the pool today and didn't want to get out even though the poor little thing was shivering.  She will have to come over again sometime when it's warmer and she can spend a little more time in the pool.

Pool Party Kind of a Bust

Today the weather really didn't work out for our big pool party.  Right after we got done having lunch a huge storm rolled through Clarence, dumped about an inch of rain and dropped some hail.  The rain finally let up around 2pm so we were able to to get in the pool for an hour but once the storm passed the pool was a bit cool and it was pretty windy.  We had fun but didn't get the whole afternoon in the pool like we planned.  Think we are going to reschedule and have our pool party tomorrow on Father's Day instead.  Hopefully the weather holds out so we can break our new deck in.

Morning Golf With Clancey

This morning Clancey and I got up at 6:30 and headed over to the golf course to get 9 holes in before our pool party today.  The picture above is of Clancey teeing off on #7 a par 3 at Lowden 3/30 club.  First shot was halfway to the hole and on the fairway and the second shot he put it on the green, closer than I did on my second shot.  He had a good look at a 5 foot putt for a legitimate par.  He ended up missing the putt but it was pretty awesome to see him nearly get his first par today.

New Back Deck

Today when I got back home from work our new back deck was nearly done and will be ready for for our big Father's Day pool party tomorrow.  We put the pergola in last year but realized we needed something under it this year and decided to put the deck in.  Next year it's going to be the door from the kitchen to the new back deck.  Looking forward to christening the back deck tomorrow, should be a good time.

Belin Blank Summer of STEAM

Today was Marshall's first day of his Belin Blank class for this summer.  This time it is a class on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math).  For the next two weeks Jen and Clancey will be making an afternoon trip to Iowa City so Marshall can take the class.  Looks like this summer is going to be a full summer of running around for Jen.

Video Game Day

After church, with it being rainy all day, the boys and I decided to retire to the man cave and play video games all day.  It's been awhile since I've played video games all day but it was a really good time.  While I probably shouldn't make a habit of wasting days away playing video games I really do need to make some more time for them.

Marshall Being Acolyte At Church

This morning we all had to make our first appearance at church since the start of summer break since Marshall was one of the acolyte's.  Given our minister is leaving July 5th to take on a new role I suppose we probably should try to make it a few times.  Anyways on the way down the aisle both of the candle lighter things went out for both Marshall and his acolyte partner. Not knowing what to do they both faked it and it looked pretty convincing.  Well Dave, our minister, saw what was going on so he walked to light them for them and they managed to get the candles lit.

Long Ride

With Ironman like 90 days away figure I need to start kicking up my weekend riding distances.  Today it was 3 hours on my bike trainer.  I thought about going outside and riding on the roads but with the rain coming and going all day it figured I better ride indoors.  It really isn't so bad for the first 2 hours but I'll tell you what when you get to that 3 hour it starts to get boring and you get sore.  At least I only have 5-10 more years of this left before I can be done with it.

Clancey Invited to The Kid Soccer Big Leagues

This week Clancey had a soccer camp down in Tipton with a coach from the Cedar Rapids Soccer Club.  All week Clancey really enjoyed it and, from what Jen tells me, did a great job.  Today was his last day of camp and it got rained out about halfway through so he did't get his full day in.  Right at the very end as Jen and Clancey were getting ready to leave the coach stopped Jen to tell her what a great kid Clancey was and he would like to invite him to play in the Cedar Rapids Soccer League.  The coach said he picked up the skills really fast and he thought he would be really good playing on a Cedar Rapids traveling team. He said he would get a hold of Jen next week with the rest of the details but next year we could start being a soccer family.

Garage Sale Day

Jen had a garage sale today and it went alright except we just couldn't get rid of our old TV cabinet.  When we bought it, it was a great piece of furniture.  We had a big console TV that fit in it well and went well with the room.  Well over time TV's got way bigger and this piece of furniture just did't work well anymore, and it was freaking huge.  We didn't have any takers and by the end we had to give the thing away and even deliver it too their house, which was fine because I didn't want to take the thing back inside.

Back From Atlanta

After spending a week down in Atlanta I made it back home.  Seems like the norm these days but I had a whole bunch of travel who's from aborted approaches, sprints though the airport and delays.  Well I did finally make it home and it's good to be back home, ready to get the summer stared with the kids.

13 Year Wedding Anniversary Today

Today is Jen and my 13th wedding anniversary and, in a truly not ideal fashion, I'm on travel in Atlanta.  Hard to believe we been married for 13 years and together for 18 years.  If I wouldn't have been so slow to pop the question, we could be at our 15th anniversary today but alas since I'm was scared baby, like every 20 year old kid is, we are only at 13.  It's crazy to think of all the things we've been through over those years, a lot of good, some bad, and a whole lot of general life stuff, which in hindsight, is really the stuff you come to enjoy the most.  I can't express enough how much I love this woman and appreciate her in my life.  When she first met me I was a college dropout working construction, and I credit her for helping me get my life back on track and make me the man I am today.  Without her in my life I certainly wouldn't be in Atlanta today representing my company as an expert in Aircraft Flight Displays.
Over the years we've grown closer, which many couples together this long can't say, we've become a great team and she hasn't turned into the "crazy old lady" I hear many of my friends tell horror stories about.  Here's too being together for another 13 years and I'll be back on Friday so we can celebrate properly.
