This morning I got up early to get my workout in so I could spend part of the afternoon working in the yard. The plan is to get done here in the next hour or two so we can go spend the rest of the afternoon in the pool. So far I'm feeling pretty good about myself I got a 30 mile bike ride in, the pool cleaned and the weed bushes partway cut down. I better get back at it so I can get this done and relax in the pool.

Here the boys are with their new bikes. We went to Target first but they just didn't have that good of selection so we had to suck it up and head to the worst place on the face of the earth, Walmart. Turns out Walmart had a great selection of bikes for the boys to choose from but we also had to shop with the really interesting characters to get those bikes. As you can see the boys are pretty excited about getting their new bikes and I'm pretty sure we will be going on a bike ride tomorrow to try them out.
This afternoon we headed into Cedar Rapids for a family night out. Technically we are actually here to get the boys new bike before we head to Beaver Island next Friday. Clancey looks like a bear riding a tricycle on his bike and Marshall has a pretty loose wheel on the front of his so it is time to get the boys bikes. Hopefully we can find something that they both like without having to go to a ton of different stores. For now though we are enjoying a good Mexican dinner before the hunt begins.
With Ironman Boulder only 36 days away time is starting to wind down on my training. I've been spending a fair amount of time on the weekend down in the pain cave doing long rides to get prepared for the upcoming race. I really haven't done as much as I would have liked this year but I feel like I've done enough to be able to finish with a decent time. If nothing else I've done more swimming then I have ever done in the past and should be able to do a swim PR if nothing else. The real question is going to be whether I can recover from Boulder in time to do decent at Wisconsin. I'm worried about my neck muscles and ankles being healed from Boulder in time for Wisconsin, if not it's going to be a long a painful day at Wisconsin.
For the first time ever I was able to make it to Belin-Blank to watch Marshall's final presentation for his summer classes. This year he did a class called Game-IT which used the Scratch programming toolkit to write video games this summer. He was a bit overwhelmed the first day because he felt like the only kid who didn't know how to type, didn't have their own computer and didn't really now how to program. After the second day though he got the hang of it and ended up really enjoying the class. Next year he will be too old for the CHESS program but will start in on the week long camps with the other smart kids. Be interesting to see how it goes.

With the summer in full swing now the upstairs tends to get quite hot, especially if you are on the top bunk of a bunk bed. That being the case the boys have taken to sleeping in the guest bedroom to stay cool. Technically Marshall is the one who wants to sleep in the guest bedroom but Clancey doesn't like to sleep alone so he sleeps with him. Between two boys and a whole bunch of stuff animals the kids require the bed gets pretty full.

Tonight was Marshall's big solo debut at the school board meeting. It was just Marshall and one other boy who played for the school board, he did a really good job even know he was nervous to start with. I posted a video earlier, take a look, I think it is pretty good for only practicing 3 total hours on the trombone. Jen and I are both excited for his first band concert coming up next year.

After Jen and the boys made me an awesome breakfast in bed and gave me two new golf shirts we all jumped in the car to head to Davenport for lunch at Famous Dave's. I actually needed to get some chlorine tabs for the pool too so the trip kind of served two purposes but still the lunch for me was the primary one. It was pretty busy but the lunch was good and well worth the trip. All in all I would say I had a great Father's Day and would like to thank Jen and the boys for making it special!

After the morning yard work the boys and I headed out to the pool for an afternoon swim. It was a bit breezy today and the water was somewhat chilly but that didn't stop us from having some fun. We probably only played in the pool for an hour but I guess when you have a backyard pool you don't have to spend all day in it. You can go out for just a little bit if that's all you want to do.

This week Marshall started his trombone lessons up at the middle school. So far he is really enjoying his lessons and apparently he is doing really great. Yesterday at his lesson the band instructor asked Marshall to play in front of the school board next Monday. Marshall is pretty proud of himself and anxious to play his solo next week. Looks like this weekend he will practicing a lot so he is ready for Monday.
Today has already been one of those kinds of days. First thing this morning I had to run over to the other building, the one I move out of 6 months ago, for a meeting. The meeting was a 8am so right about 9am I was headed out to get in my car for my next meeting. As you can see I had a hard time doing that since my car had a boot on it. Apparently when I moved buildings my location never got updated in our system at Rockwell and the security guards though I was illegally parked in the transient spot as a non-transient employee. I call the number to get the boot off, the guard showed up 20 minutes later after I had pretty much missed my next meeting and took the boot off. I was pretty mad and chewed his butt for a good 5 minutes before he finally got the boot off and I was on my way.

Today went way better then I thought it would go. I'm not sure what my half Ironman PR is but if I didn't get it I came darn close. Like always my race strategy pretty much consisted of get through the swim, hammer the bike as hard as I can and then hold on on the run until I fall apart. One of these days I'm going to be able to actually finish the run without falling apart but once again I ended up falling apart about mile 9 of the run. Up until that point I had a for sure PR going but mile 9 came, my legs cramped up from hammering the bike too hard and I finished off with a combination of run/walk to the end. Ended up with a 5:45, a PR in the swim and a pretty awesome bike. I'm not unhappy with my performance at all and it gave me some stuff to focus my training on for the next 8 weeks leading up to Boulder. I know one thing for sure I have to find a different wetsuit because I was fighting it the whole way which cost me time. If I could get a good wetsuit I'm pretty sure at Boulder I could finally swim a 1:30 which is a dream time for me.
Here I am in transition getting ready for Ironman Kansas 70.3 once again. Been a few years since I've done the race but not a lot has changed. I'm no really sure where my training is at, at this point. I feel like I've done a whole lot of swimming but that has somewhat come at the expense of my biking and running. My goal today is to go sub 6 hours but I just don't know if I have it in me. I guess the day will tell, wish me luck.

Here are some more photo's from the transition site. The photo on top is a picture of the road up from the swim to bike transition. Granted it was a photo from a GoPro so it looks further then it is but it is a cool photo. The bottom one is of the swim entrance/exit.
