After the boys and I picked out my new driver we did what we always do and headed over to Panchero's for some lunch. I didn't get a picture of us sitting at the table eating but since I'm pretty sure that we taken more than a dozen and posted them to the blog you would be able to go back in the blog and find a representative picture.
Last weekend while I was out golfing as I was hitting balls on the driver I range I managed to break my driver. I'm pretty sure that it was because I hit the ball so hard but either way I really needed a new driver if I was going to play more golf this year. Today I took the boys into CR with me and we headed over to Golf HQ to pick up a new driver. I hit 3 different drivers and it ended up that this driver I was hitting the most accurate and 20 yards farther then every other club. Pretty sure now that I have this club I'll be getting an invite to the pro tour next year.
This morning Harley decided that laying at the end of the bed just wasn't for him and he decided that laying on my pillow with his butt in my face was the best spot on the bed. I'm thinking it's time to take this dog back to the pound and get ourselves a new one!

This afternoon the boys both had to head to the dentist to get cavities filled. This has been one of those things that has kind of been hanging over their heads and worrying them since the dentist discovered them sometime back. I wasn't able to make it too the appointment myself but Jen said the boys were absolute troopers. Marshall was able to get his done with a little "Sleepy Gas" but poor Clancey had to get shots. He was a tough guy and got his shots with just a small yelp. Now for the rest of the night part of his face hasn't been able to move but he was able to play in the pool for an hour with Marshall and I.

Being I got done with golf a bit early today I headed over to piano lessons with Jen and the boys. It had been a while since I was able to attend a piano lesson with them so it was fun to be able to hear them play. Marshall is getting really good and Clancey is coming right along too. I guess it's not that often you have a kindergartner who has already been playing the piano for 2 years. Can't imagine how good he will be when he gets to junior high band.
Today since the kids were in school and I still had one more day off I decided that it was time to play some golf. I haven't been able to play as much golf this year as last so I was worried I would be able to hit the ball decent. Actually it turned out that I was hitting the ball about as good as I did last year. I couple miss hits here and there but over all not horrible. Now I did manage to break my driver while I was warming up on the driving range. Nothing special I just managed to get a hold of the ball real well and my driver head flew right off. It really wasn't that big of deal, I was hitting the first cheapo clubs I bought a couple year ago so the driver itself may have been worth about $20. It was time for me to get a new driver anyways so I look at it as an opportunity. Overall it was a fun day and I left want to play more. I'm thinking I'm going to have to make time to play more golf, especially with the boys since they both really enjoy it.

Today was another full day of swimming in the pool. It's still not as warm as it could be outside and the pool water is still a bit chilly but we spent the day once again swimming in the pool and having fun. This time I made an effort to get a bunch of good pictures of the boys in the pool.

After our big swim for a couple hours this afternoon we headed inside to be lazy and watch a movie. The kids chose Frozen and like always I made it about halfway through before I fell asleep and missed the rest of the movie. To bad too because the movie looked like it was a pretty good show. I guess the rental is good for another couple days maybe I could watch the rest some time while I'm on break.
Today we officially had our first swim in the pool we bought at the end of last summer and had a great time. It was a bit chilly and it still wasn't as clean as I would have liked but it was good enough to get our first swim in. We all had a great time and are excited to get our deck built now and our back patio done so we have a base for all of our back yard fun this summer.

This morning I got up pretty early bound and determined to get the pool cleaned up and get it opened for the year. We really weren't able to do a whole lot with it until our electrician got the new plug put in for the filter, which didn't happen until middle of this week. Wednesday night I spend some time to get all the hoses hooked back up and then I had Jen fill the pool the rest of the way up yesterday. This morning though was the big job, cleaning the dirty pool. It was surprising how much crap ended up in the pool over the winter, there were huge piles of leaves and debris in the pool when I start the vacuuming process. It ended up taking about 5 hours to get the pool clean enough to start putting the chemicals in. It's still not as clean as I would like but it was good enough to get it started. The goal is to be able to finally swim in the pool Monday for Memorial Day which right now I would put at 50/50 whether it can happen. At 6 tonight I'm going to go check the chemical levels and see where we stand hopefully we are where we need to be at so we can swim on Monday!

With Ironman Kansas 70.3 right around the corner and having had a couple short weeks of training I decided it was time to buckle down and get some good training in. Over the past two days I've biked 60 miles and ran 20 miles which is over 6 hours of workouts in a short period of time. It's been a while since I really done that level of training and let me tell you I felt it. I was probably only 5 miles into my 14 mile run today and I was done. I didn't bring enough food I was tired from my late workout yesterday and I just fell apart. It was a hard fought slog to get back home after that run but I managed too after 2:30 minutes. Pretty much for the remainder of the day I've felt like total poop and had to rest. Which didn't make the wife too happy.

Holy crap I'm actually on a plane that hasn't been delayed and I'm finally headed home. Nothing like spending 3 days in airports for 1.5 days of meetings. I knew better then to try and fly out the same day as my meetings on the last flight into Cedar Rapids but my travel companion, who had to car, wanted too. Next time I'm just staying the extra day and flying out on the of the morning flights the next day. At least if you get delayed you still make it home the same day.

This is freaking nuts, I've never had this much travel trouble except for the time Jen and I flew to Puerto Rico, but my flight was delayed again and I'm going to miss my connection in Detroit. Talked to the airline and there is no way to get to Cedar Rapids today, all the flight are booked up. Guess it's time to find a Marriott and hunker down for the night and hopefully be able to get home tomorrow.
After a couple good days of meetings were back at the airport and our 4:30 flight is once again delayed. If we don't get to Detroit by 7:30 we will miss our connecting flight to Cedar Rapids, which is the last one of the day. If this keeps up I'm going to end up stuck here in CT for another day.

After nearly 16 hours of total travel time for what really should have been around 6 total hours of travel, I made it too my hotel. As you can see it's now 2am with 8am scheduled meetings at the customer site, sometimes air travel can be a huge pain in the butt.
Monday, May 12, 2014
Well after being stuck in Cedar Rapids until 1pm I'm not stuck in Detroit. I managed to miss two subsequent connecting flights to CT and now the one that was supposed to leave here a 5pm is being delayed. Once we land in CT we have an hour and half drive from the airport to our hotel. If this keeps up we won't get there until after midnight!

Here we are at our annual Mother's Day lunch location, Stone City General Store. The town has all of about 25 people that live in it but they have this awesome restaurant down by the river that is worth traveling for. As you can see we got there early there we're a whole lot of people there yet but by the time we left it was getting pretty packed.
As we were getting ready to head out the door to take Jen out for her Mother's Day lunch I took this picture of the boys hanging with Harley. Harley looks like a stately protector here but let a little danger come his way and he runs like a scared little girl in the other direction.
Being Mother's Day morning we figured we should honor Jen with breakfast in bed. Well just like any morning we have plans it doesn't go entirely as planned. When I first got out of bed I had to help my neighbor capture his dogs who had gotten free. Once I helped him do that then it was time to make Jen some breakfast. She had already hinted at what she wanted so I knew what to make but just because I know what to make doesn't mean I know how too. We did manage to get it done without too many problems and get Jen her breakfast.

Monday morning I'm jumping on a plane once again to head out to Stratford, Connecticut for a couple days of meetings. Unlike my last couple business trips this is a pretty short out and back trip with a couple long days of travel to contend with. I'm leaving Monday and back in Cedar Rapids late on Wednesday night after a full day of meetings. I normally would leave the following day but I've been so busy at work lately I just can't afford to lose the extra day traveling back. I've never been to Connecticut before but I'm pretty sure I won't have anytime to really take in any of the sights except maybe on the way to and from the airport.
My first full Iron distance race of the year is fast approaching and I have to say I'm to that point in training where I've lost a lot of my initial motivation. Always seems to happen this time of year, I've been training since November, haven't had any events to realize the fruits of my training and other outdoor activities seem more appealing then long distance training. In 4 weeks I have Ironman Kansas 70.3 which should get me back focused right but until then it's going to be a struggle to find the motivation day to day to get the necessary training it.

This morning before Clancey had to head to school and me off to work we headed out to the porch to enjoy the fine morning and have breakfast. I guess I had coffee, so not technically breakfast but Clancey had toast so we can count it as breakfast on the porch. It's just nice to finally be able to spend some time outside after our tough winter.

This afternoon after I got home from work and before we celebrated by family birthday party the we all headed up to the middle school so Marshall could try out for the band. I guess technically he wasn't really trying out as much as he was picking the instrument he would play next year. Originally he thought he would pick either the Trumpet or the Drums but after we got there he took a liking to the trombone. With his background in piano I'm pretty sure at one point he will end up on playing percussion too but for now he will be focusing on the trombone next year. Can't wait to go to his first band concert next year!

Today, which also happens to be my birthday, was the big North Cedar Spring concert. As you can see it was a zoo themed concert and Jen went all out on their costumes. The concert was as good as a kid spring concert can be and as you can see they even got Marshall to do a little dancing which is a pretty rare occurrence. I'll upload the videos when I get a chance so you can see for yourself.

We meant to do it last weekend but never really got around to it so we had to wait a week to get the porch furniture out. We always look forward to being able to get the furniture out and get the porch season started, especially this time of year before the bugs are out. Now we just need to get the temps warm enough for the pool and our outdoor oasis will be ready to go for the summer.

The boys and I headed over to Davenport this afternoon to get the chemicals we needed to get the pool open. While I realize it's still a bit cold out to be swimming I wanted to get it opened up so by the time it was warm out we would actually be able to swim. We figured while we were over there that there wasn't any reason to enjoy a good lunch at our favorite place, Panchero's.
