Yesturday was Marshall's last T-ball game of the summer and I think he was glad it was over. T-ball isn't exactly the most exciting game for a 6 year old. There is a whole lot of standing around in the hot sun waiting to get to bat, which is the funnest part of the game for the kids. Marshall did say that he wanted to play agin next year so I will have to spend some time working with him for next year. As far as coaching goes it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I learned a few things that if I were to do it again I would change so it would be easier to handle the kids. Next thing up for Marshall is swimming lessons which start today. Hopefully he does alright.

Tonight we all headed over to the drive inn just south of Maquoketa to see Toy Story 3. We got here a bit late, after the previews had started, and it was busy as heck. We ended up having to park all the way at the back and poor Marshall forgot his glasses, next time we will have to get here a bit earlier.
After we had lunch at Ganzo's we stopped at Miss Effie's Flower Farm so Jen could meet one of her blogger friends and she could get some flowers. The boys and I are checking out the chickens, ducks and cats. Clancey is just in love with stalking this chicken that is wondering around the farm. I took a video of the boys so be sure to check out my youtube channel to see the boys chasing him.
After I got done with my bike ride this morning I loaded the family into the car and we headed to Davenport for the day. First we stopped at Ganzo's for lunch. A bunch of Jen's friends highly recommended it so we though we would give it a try. We haven't got our food yet but the chips and salsa are good so hopefully the food turns out good too.
Yesturday my friend Travis and I decided to hit Panchero's up for lunch. After we got our burritos and sat down we noticed this group of girls walk into the Pancher's with a hand full of cash. We then saw them walk up to everyone and give this a card with a two dollar bill attached to it. Thay finally got over to us and said they from Hills Bank and Trust and we were spotted at the Hills Bank and Trust spot of the day. Pretty cool to get free money, although I used it to buy a pop which managed to lose after taking one drink. Doh!

This morning Jen and I had to go up to the UCC and be on the cookie committee this morning. Cookie committee isn't to difficult you just have to get everything prepared for fellowship time after church is over. This is the third time we've been assigned to be on the committee and the first time I've actually done it. The last two times I had things to do that led to Jen doing it and me getting the time off. Cookie committee went pretty quick the committe chairs brought cake and disposable tableware so clean up was a snap.

Tonight Jen's parents came over to celebrate fathers day with us so Jen and I decided to head out on a date night. Date night when you live with a crafter is different then a normal date night. These date nights include trips to the hardware store and looking at paint and other various things. Maybe I just have a weird wife.

Tonight after the boys and I got home from the restaurant we were sitting on the couch when I noticed that there were some pretty dark clouds rolling in. So I decided to check the radar on my phone when I was greeted with the image above. It didn't take too long before the wind really started to pick up and it started to rain sheets. At one point it was blowing so hard I considered taking the boys downstairs. I turned the news on and absolutely no one was covering the storm, apparently Wheel of Forture is just too important to cut away from. About this time the hail started to come down and the electricity went out. The hail never grew beyond pea size so that was good but still never a good sign when it starts to hail. The storm started to let up a bit when Jen called from the restaurant to ask if everything was all right and to tell me that the roof just blew off of St. John's Auto Repair and crashed into BoJacks across the street. At this point the storm had let up and I couldn't stand it so I loaded the boys in the car to go "report" what was happening, i.e. rubber neck. Driving through town there were huge branches down everywhere and sure enough the roof was laying across the street on top of a car no less. Sure glad that no one seemed to have been hurt when the roof blew off. Also that we didn't lose any real big branches out of any of our trees and didn't have any damage to our property.
Tonight Jen has to work at Mill Creek Cafe since they are open for supper. That being the case the boys and I decided to come down to eat and visit mommy so I didn't have to cook. Clancey was being quite the ham so I had take a picture of him. He is just like his brother, can't take a normal picture.

Recently Jen got this grand idea that she wanted Marshall to take piano lessons. Part of this grand plan meant that we had to purchase a piano, so Jen got on Craigslist and started to search for pianos. Well it didn't take to long searching and she found a $50 piano in Marion which is only a couple miles from work for me. She asked me what I thought and I said whatever you want is fine. She emailed the lady back told her we would buy it and we would come pick it up Wednesday. So today was the day that I had to go pick it up. I recruited one of my friends from work, who told me I should rent a piano dolley which turned out to be a great idea, and headed off to Marion to pick it up. Having never moved a piano before I had no idea what they weighed, well it turns out they weigh a hell of a lot. When we went inside we were greeted by a 1914 solid wood piano that I couldn't even pick up one side of without help. It took us nearly an hour but we finally got it loaded onto the dolley and moved outdoors but there was no way we could get it in the back of the truck without help. I called in the help of a second friend who came over and helped us get it loaded into the truck. That meant the job was half done. Now the next big task, get it onto the porch at home and pushed inside. That didn't turn out to be as bad as I thought it would be. We backed the truck up to the porch and were able to get it on to the porch without too many issues. By the time it was all said and done it took until 9:30 so 4 hours later it was moved into our house. I'll take a picture in the morning to put on the blog to show the piano but it turned out to be really nice and is a good addition to the house.

Today when we stopped at the mall Clancey and Marshall quickly spied the little rides. First we put Clancey on the little space ship for a quick ride and then Marshall wanted to ride the virtual roller coaster ride. I tried to convince Marshall that doing a real roller coaster would be just like this thing but he refused to believe me. ;)
The boys wanted to head into Cedar Rapids to have some fun so I loaded them into the car and off we went. For lunch we wanted something different from our normal Panchedo's so we headed over to Red Robin for lunch. After this we will probably hit up Best Buy to check out the video games and then I don't know for sure. We will see where the day takes us.

After a long weekend in Topeka for my race Jen and I are headed home. Been a pretty uneventful trip so far just a lot of driving. We decided to have a late lunch today so we could stop in Des Moines at the Cheese Cake Factory. I'm still trying to make up for all the calories I burned yesturday so I can eat a huge piece of cheesecake for dessert ;)

I just got done with Ironman Kansas 70.3 and it was a good day. I went sub 3 on my bike and sub 2 on the run for a finish time of 5:48. I'm real happy with my race. After two weeks ago at bluff creek I was worried but after today I have built a lot of confidence for Ironman Wisconsin in 98 days. I didn't walk on the entire run and passed a a lot of people. I'll be curious to see my official results.
The official results are posted. I ended up with an official time of 5:48:37
49:41 - Swim - 1505 place
2:55:38 - Bike
1:56:22 - Run - 825
You may notice that between the coming out of the water and finishing the run I passed nearly 700 people. Seems to me that I need to work on my swim because the people I'm coming out of the water with are not the people that I will ultimately be finishing by. I kind of thought I was passing a lot of people, in fact on the bike only 3 people passed me the entire 56 miles. While I didn't count but I don't think I got passed by more then a handful of people the entire run. Sure be nice to be in a race and not be playing catch up the whole day.
My transition areas are all setup and I'm ready to rock. They did end up making it wetsuit legal 77.5 degrees so my swim should go way better then I thought. I'm feeling good and ready to race. Next time you see me I hopefully will have my finisher medal around my neck.
Up at 3:30 and off to the race. There was a long line but it kept moving and we got right in. Jen and I were laughing about all the other people who were out but not going to the Ironman trying to figure out where all these people could possibly be going at that hour. I'm feeling good and slept suprisingly well last night. Looks like I have to get off the bus now.

Well I have my bike checked into T1 and now I'm at the athlete meeting. The water temp is 81 degrees so it is very unlikely that the race will be wetsuit legal which will make the swim a bit tougher. There is a possibility that the temp could drop or they could do us a favor but I doubt it. All in all I'm ready to rock can't wait to get going.

I'm checked into Ironman Kansas 70.3 and after I get my bike checked into transition tomorrow I'll be ready to go. There is nothing like doing a official Ironman event they do a great job of putting events on. They put that extra polish on the events to make the athlete feel extra special. With over 2000 athletes in the race it is going to be a great day.
Here we are finally on our way to Kansas for my half Ironman. This morning I had to call into a telecon and Jen had to finish the newsletter so we got a late start but we are finally on the road. On the way we decided for a quick lunch stop in Ames to have Hickory Park for lunch. After this its nonstop to Lawrence, Kansas to get my race packet and then over to Topeka to check in to our hotel.
I'm really looking forward to getting back to Ironman this year being that I am way more prepared then I was last time. When I did my last race I really didn't have the fitness or expierence to be racing at that distance and it's quite amazing I even managed to finish. This time I have done the training, done the races and should be mentally prepared for the distance and I plan on having a good race day that doesn't involve racing the cutoffs all day. Like I said before Sunday should really tell me where I'm at so hopefully it goes well.

We just got to Mema and Papa's to drop the boys off so Jen and I can head off to Lawence, Kansas for Ironman Kansas 70.3 for the weekend. Since Marshall is out of school now they are going to spend the week here having fun. It's been a long time since Jen and I got to get away for a weekend by ourselves. I think the last time might have been the Green Day concert we went to in Minneapolis last summer. Frankly its been a long time since the family has traveled anywhere. Between work, school, and Sunday school it was hard to get too far from Clarence on the weekends. Now that summer is here I think we are going to take advantage of doing as much traveling as we can.
Here I am halfway through my last workout before Kansas. Today its just a light 20 miles on the bike before I pack everything up and head that way. Feeling pretty good on my bike today and feel like everything will go good on race day. Wish me luck. Only 101 days until Ironman Wisconsin.

In keeping with tradition I once again forgot it was my wedding anniversary today. I figured it out about 3 this afternoon when I got home from the boy trip with Clancey and Jen came over and hugged me and said "Happy Anniversary". Of course I totally gave away that I had forgotten when I responded with a "Oh F%$k" but I didn't end up in the dog house though because Jen only remembered after her parents called to wish her a happy anniversary so we both managed to forget again. In the 8 years we've been married I don't think that Jen and I have ever really celebrated out anniversary. At our 10 year anniversary we will do something big to make up for all the forgotten anniversaries of the past.
Clancey and I are back from our trip to CR to hang out and have fun. We ended up going to the mall, Best Buy, Eating at McDonalds, Getting the oil changed in my car and then stopping by the Chevy dealer to check out the cars. We both had a good time had a good time and I can't wait to do it again soon.
With me having an extra day off from work I decided to Clancey on a boy day. Right now we are at the mall, which doesn't happend to be open yet, so it is just Clancey, me and a bunch of mall walkers. Once the stores open we are going to check out the video game store, maybe get a cookie and ride the escalators. After this we will head over to Best Buy and then from there I don't know for sure, we will see where the day takes us
