Ice Cream

Mommy wasn't quite ready for the boys to come home so she requested we go and get some ice cream before we headed home. I obviously couldn't deny a request like that so the boys and I headed to Mt. Vernon to the nearest open DQ for some ice cones, as Clancey calls them. You're missing out mommy. ;)

Done At The Car Show

Well we are done at the car show and getting ready to head home. The car show was packed but the boys really enjoyed getting to see all the cool cars. I think my favorite was a silver 57 chevy. Marshall really liked the Challenge and Clancey liked the motorcycles the most. Personally I think the boys just enjoyed have a boy day the most. Gives me and the boys time to have fun and mommy a bit of time to herself. Its a win-win.

At The Car Show

Here is pic from the car show. If look in the background there is a Challenger :)

Morning Workout

Here is a picture of me doing what I do most mornings working out in the basement. This morning it was a 2 hour bike ride followed by a 30 minute run. Normally I put off my weekend workouts until the afternoon but this morning I decided I would get out of bed and get my workout done before everyone really was up and around. This afternoon the boys and I are going to go to a car show in Monticello so I didn't figure I wanted to start working out at 5:00pm for 3 hours.

199 Days Til Ironman

Today there are officially less then 200 days until Ironman Wisconsin. Hard to believe that I have been training for 8 weeks already. I am rather disappointed in the weather. Last year at this time we had already had 60 degree day and was only a couple weeks from being able to ride outside on the weekends. The way the weather has been its likely I won't be able to get outside on my bike until April. So far the training has been going good. Up most days by 5:30 for my first workout of the day and then get my next one in sometime in the afternoon. I think this Ironman will go better then my last one. My first half Ironman in early June will be a good gauge of my fitness. Here's to the next 100 days of training.

Sick Kid

We thought we were going to luck out and escape the winter without a trip to the doctor, last night our luck finally ran out. After I got home from work I noticed Marshall seemed to have a bit of a cough that got progressivly worse as the night wore on. Once we got him to bed and he fell asleep it went away but about 2 am he woke up and couldn't stop coughing. It got so bad that his coughing fits caused him to start throwing up. Jen was up with Marsh for a couple hours and didn't get back to bed until 4 am. Right now Jen has him over at the doctor and hopefully they are giving him something to make it go away.

Update:
In keeping with his late winter annual sickness Marshall has walking Pnuemonia and RVS. Hopefully the medicine the doctor prescribed will help fix the problems.

Boy Day

Mommy sent Marsh and I off to Cedar Rapids to do some grocery shopping so we decided to turn it into a boy day. First we went over to Casa Las Glorias for lunch. After we were done there Marshall asked if we could go to the mall for a bit. Of course we had to head over to the video game store for a quick look. Once we got done there Marsh wanted to ride the escalators for a bit. On the way from the escalators Marshall saw those crane game machines and asked if I could get him a ball. I checked my wallet sure enough I had a dollar and told him we could give it one try. First try I won him the blue ball he wanted so he was pretty excited. Now Marsh and I may head over for a cookie while we wait for our grocery list to show up.

Clancey Up and Around

This morning Clancey has been up and around playing and having a good time with his brother. In fact we are having a hard time keeping him under control so he doesn't hurt his eye by playing to hard. I think Marsh and I may take off for a while so Clancey won't be able to feed off his brothers energy.

Herky Is a Clown

Yesturday as we were leaving the hospital I saw this Herky statue dressed up like a clown and had to take a pic. It is good to see that even the people of Iowa City think he is a huge clown. Go Clones!

Clancey Is Feeling Better

After spending nearly all day laying in bed and on the couch Clancey is starting to feel better. Last night he slept with Jen, which left me sleeping on the couch, and he had a tough time sleeping. Today he got a good 3 hour nap in and is acting like he feels way better. Hopefully tonight he sleeps better.

Clancey Feeling Better

The anesthesa is wearing and Clancey is starting become himself again. He has drank about a gallon of apple juice and is eating graham crackers right now. About 20 more minutes and we'll bea able to get out of here.

Clancey!!!

Clancey made it back to the room. He is bit upset and really wants to rub his eyes but seems be doing good otherwise. I'm happy to have him back and done with surgery.

Clancey Is Out

Clancey is in first stage recovery now so we haven't got to see him yet but he is out of surgery. The doctor said everything went well and she expects this should fix the issue. She did say he had a very thin piece that attaches to his retina so that worried her a bit but she doesn't expect a problem. They are going to have a follow up appointment on Monday but all in all a good surgery and I can't wait to see Clancey.

Clancey in Surgery

They just took Clancey back to start his surgery. The doctors told us it would be a couple hours but I'm hoping we will get updates about the progress as they go. I will update the blog as soon as I know more.

Clancey Getting Checked Out

Clancey is getting his pre op checkout right now and the nurse can't believe how good he is being. He let her take his blood pressure, tempurature and vitals without so much as a peep. He is doing great.

At the Hospital

We just got checked into the hospital and Clancey is running around the waiting room playing. His procedure is at 8:45 so we have a bit of a wait.

Clancey Pre-Op Appointment

Today Clancey goes in for his pre-op appointment around noon. Assuming everything is looking good Clancey will be having surgery on left eye sometime Friday morning. For those who don't know over a year ago Clancey had a severe ear infection in his left ear. The swelling in his ear go so bad that is put pressure on his optic nerve and cause a condition known as 6th Nerve Pulsey. Since then Clancey hasn't been able to move his left eye to the left of center. If you look at pictures of him you will always see his head tilted to the right to make up for it. Hopefully after Friday it gets corrected and Clancey no longer has to deal with this.

I'm A Cyclone Fan

The other day at school Marshall was talking to one of his classmates and he told him that he was a Cyclone fan. The other little boy said to him that even though he was a Cyclone fan he could still cheer for the Hawkeyes when they aren't playing each other. Marshall said to him "No I can't, I'm a Cyclone Fan!" We have raised Marshall right. :)

Look At Me Daddy

Look at me daddy is what I hear and then I look over to see this. I then asked Clancey if he thought that was a good idea. He assured me that he was being careful. ;)

Ice Cream

Kind of a cold day for ice cream but seemed like a good way to kill time while Jen got groceries at Aldi. Clancey was pretty excited about getting ice cream and demanded to have his own cone. He didn't even make that big of mess.

Lunch at Applebee's

After getting Jen's running shoes we headed over to Applebee's for lunch. Been a long time since we've been out to eat as a whole family. Clancey can be kind of a pill sometimes in restuarants so we don't go out much. We'll see how he does today.

Jen's New Shoes

Today we stopped by Running Wild to get Jen her new running shoes for the Crazy Legs event I signed her up for in late April. She said she would treat herself to new running shoes if she stuck with running for a month. Congrats on the new shoes!

Frosty Morning

While I am quite sick of the snow when I got up to go swim this morning I noticed it was a very neat looking with all the frost on the trees. Would have been kind of nice to have this kind morning on Christmas morning a couple months back instead of rain, slush and a flooded basement. Would be even better if the snow would all melt and it was degrees by next weekend. :)

Time To Get Up

This morning while Jen and I were sleeping in a bit we were greeted by this. Marshall always comes to our door on Saturday morning and peeks his head around the corner and asks if its time to go down stairs. It always seems to be before 7:30 in the morning. Funny how sleeping in when you have no kids is like 10 or 11 and with kids its 7 or 8. I guess that's just the way it is.

Bomb Scare at North Cedar

February 9, 2010

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Monday evening, a threatening note was found in a Middle School boys' locker room The note stated: "At 1:00 on Friday there wil be a bomb going off."

The district takes this matter seriously. We have contacted Cedar County Law Enforcement. For the next several days, student bags will be searched and officers will be on campus. Also, lockers will be inspected, and access to our buildings will be restricted.

We are informing you of this matter to avert rumors and false information. We will work to ensure a safe learning environment. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the middle school office at 452-3179. Thank you.

Sincerely,
John O. Dayton, Superintendent
North Cedar Community School District

Clancey's Huge Breakfast

This morning as Marsh and I were headed out the door I looked over and saw Clancey with this huge plate of waffles.  I thought I had to take a picture and post it. Later on I found out that Clancey ended up eating most of it. I guess that is why the kid is so big.

Snow Day!

Once again it has been snowing all night we probably have gotten another 6 inches on the 6 inches we already had and Marshall has another snow day. I don't know how many this has been but Marshall is probably going to be in school until mid June at this point. Since Rockwell never closes I once again have to go brave 40 miles of crappy roads, uggghhh. Winter is the worst time of year to live so far from work.

Council Meeting Last

Last night I had to run the council meeting for the first 20 minutes because the mayor had to go to basketball parents night for his daughter. Of course the first 20 minutes of the meeting were the most contravertial. Casey's wants to rezone a property on the west end of town and a couple that will live across the street are against the project. We closed the comments down after around 20 minutes and did end up voting to rezone the property. While I can understand that you wouldn't want a Casey's to go in across the street from your home as a council person I can't pass up the opportunity to let someone invest over a million dollars into the community. It will be nice to have a big new Casey's in town, I won't have to drive all the way to Lisbon to get gas now.

Recovery Weekend

Well after two days of laying on the couch and playing video games I'm starting to feel better. I wish I had one more day to relax but oh well I guess that's how it goes. They are forecasting 4-8 inches of snow for tonight so who knows I may get one more day off. I guess I just need to spend the rest of the night resting and enjoying the rest of the Superbowl, Go Colts.

Morning Council Meeting

This morning we had a council meeting at 8am to discuss the resignation of our former police chief. Our former police chief sent a 9 page letter to the council laying out the reasons he resigned and we thougth it was appropriate to have an emergency meeting to discuss it. I wasn't able to of get out of bed to head to the meeting but was able to call in. The meeting went way better then I thought it would go and hopefully some of the actions we took help problems in the future. I did find out the mayor isn't going to be able to make Monday's council meeting so I will be heading the show up. Should be fun. We are having a public hearing for rezoning residencial to commercial for Casey's new project. I'm betting a few people will be there to issue concerns. I imagine it will be animated.

Jimmy John's Incident

After my procedure I told Jen that I was hungry and we should use this as an opportunity for an impromtu date night. At first I said we should go to Granite City but the closer we got the restuarant the more my pain medicine started to wear off so I said maybe we should just go to Jimmy John's instead. So we each went in and ordered our subs and ate with no issues. When we were done we stood up to leave and I felt a bit light headed but I figured it would pass. I tossed my wrapper in the garbage and headed toward the door. Next thing I know I'm laying on the ground outside the Jimmy John's front door looking up at Jen who looks really concerned. Apparently I was acting weird opening the door and Jen asked what was wrong and I repeat "I just need to" a couple times and then slammed to the ground. Once I got up I felt fine so who knows what happened but it is kind of a funny story. :)

Procedure Is Done

Well I'm sewed back up and ready to go. The procedure wasn't bad at all. Though the happy pills and numbing medicine haven't wore off yet so ask me again in a few hours.

The Snip

Here is a pic of the snip in action.

In The Operating Room

Well here I am in the operating room waiting to get the deal done. Feeling a bit woozy but ready to get this done.

Getting Ready To Head In

Well I'm sitting in the doctors office waiting to head in the get this show started. I'm actually quite a bit less nervous then I thought I would be but that could be the happy pills the doctor gave me. 30 more minutes....ahhhh.

Mill Creek Cafe

Today everyone is getting ready have their first meal at the Mill Creek Cafe. The place looks really nice and the menu looks great, can't wait to get my meal.

Update:

We just got back from Mill Creek Cafe and the food was great. I had the hot roast beef sandwich and could be one of the best I've ever had. Real mashed potatoes and gravy, no prefab stuff there, fresh green beans...mmmmm! I also had a piece of banana cream pie for dessert which was absolutely wonderful as well. As you can see it was quite busy at lunch time and everyone really seemed to be enjoying themselves. Hopefully everything works out and they stay open.

Mill Creek Cafe

Today the Mill Creek Cafe in Clarence Iowa officially opened. Two of Jen's friends Jamie Wilhau and Macia Syring are the restuarant owners and have done a lot of neat things with the building. I was at work so I wasn't able to make it for the first meal but Jen made it up there to have a meal and she said it was really good. Since I'm going to be taking tomorrow off for my procedure I'll be able to go up and have lunch tomorrow. I'll report back how it was.

Big Day Tomorrow

Tomorrow afternoon I go into the doctors office to get a vasectomy, so Jen and my baby making days will be over. We have two wonderful little guys and decided that was plenty for us. Just seeing how much work two kids are when kids start to out number parents I can't imagine how much work that is. I'm not real excited about someone getting near my little friends with sharp utensiles but I guess that is part of the deal. I also have to take two weeks off from training which I'm not real excited about either. One plus is the doctor prescribed a weekend of doing absolutely nothing, laying on the couch and raiding the fridge. I can't think of a better thing to do on Superbowl weekend.

Smart Little Clancey

This morning while Marshall and I were getting ready, Clancey was out in the kitchen coloring on his chore list. All of a sudden Clancey stop and exclaims "Mommy look, look."

Jen responds back "What is it honey?"

Clancey says "Look I made an S and a T."

Sure enough Jen look at the lower right hand portion of the paper and see's both two marks that look decidedly like an S and a T. Even more impressive he knew what letters they were with no prompting. That kid is getting smart.
