Clancey is Officially an Iowan

Tonight for supper Clancey ate sweet corn on the cob for the first time and became an official Iowan. He ended up having 2 ears so he must have enjoyed it quite a bit.

School Supplies

Today we are at Target buying school supplies for Marshall to head to kindergarten. Can't believe he is already headed to school.

Late Night Canning

Tonight Jen is going to spend the next couple of hours canning green beans. I don't know where Jen gets all of her energy to do these things but I sure do appreciate it in the middle of winter and we are still eating garden fresh vegtables.

On The Way Home

The family and I are headed home from vacation after a fun week in Door County. About halfway between Fish Creek and Clarence is Fondulac Wisconsin and Lake Side park. This is probably the nicest city park I have ever been to. Like the name says it is positioned right next to a huge lake, they have a ton of play equipment and even ride for kids. While we were eating lunch a group of ducks wandered by to see if we would share and as it turns out Clancey and Marshall loved sharing their lunch. Once we got done with lunch and ran out of stuff to feed the ducks Clancey started to chase them around. He laughed and laughed and had a grand old time. Now we are over playing on the equipment. They have 5 different sets so we may never get to leave ;).

Clancey and "Puppy"

Clancey has finally decided on his stuffed toy of choice, "Puppy". Although I'm not exactly sure that it actually is a puppy, probably more of a leopard, but Clancey calls it puppy so that's good enough. "Puppy" and blankey go everywhere with Clancey. I figured it was time to document puppy's existance and put it on the web so here is your dose of Clancey and "Puppy". :)

Cana Island Serenity

Cana Island

On our last day we decided to visit the Cana Island Lighthouse. The lighthouse is key stop on any Door County trip. I think we have visited the light house everytime we've came to Door County. It is a very picturesque location and the boys really enjoy wading in the water.

Second To Last Day of Vacation

Well today was the second to last day of vacation. Today was spent going down to Sturgeon Bay to check out the boats in the shipyard. There were more ships in port down in Sturgeon Bay then we've ever seen in the years past. Rumor has it that with the economy being so poor a lot of ships aren't running because there just isn't as much to ship anymore.

After the ship yards and lunch we headed back to Fish Creek to get our swim suits and headed down to Murphy County park just south of Egg Harbor to go to the beach for the afternoon. The boys had a great time digging in the sand, playing with the beach ball and splashing in the water. It was about 4:30 before we got back to the cottage. After having pizza for supper Marshall, Clancey and I threw paper airplanes for about 2 hours. It amazes me the simple pleasures that can enterain kids for hours.

Toy Store

After the bike ride I decided to let the boys stop at the toy store to look around. Clancey was walking around the store yelling "cool" and "puppy" at all the stuffed animals. We eventually decided to buy a pair of balsa wood airplanes. Marshall and I must have throw them for 2 hours when we got back to the cabin.

Afternoon Bike Ride

This afternoon I took the boys on a bike ride through Pennisula State Park. After we rode for a bit I stopped and let them throw rocks in the water for a while. Throwing rocks in the water is one of Marshall's favorite things to do and quickly becoming one of Clancey's.

At the Beach

Here is a picture of us at the beach today. The boys are having a great time in the ice cold Lake Michigan water.

Cherry Picking

Here we are at the Cherry Orchard picking cherries, a Door County tradition. Clancey tried a cherry made a horrible face and then swallowed the pit but he is enjoying picking them.

Pedal Cars

This afternoon we decided to go to this place called PC Junction for lunch. It was called the number one family restaurant in Door County. It was a train themed restuarant where a little toy train brought your food out. The food was just your run of the mill burgers and fries so we were kind of confused. Then we went outside and it all became clear. They had so much fun kid stuff to play on and with I didn't think we would ever get to leave. The funnest was probably the pedal cars and track they had set up. We must have pedaled around for nearly an hour in fact I actually tweaked my right hamstring while I was doing it. Sure hope that doesn't effect my triathlon I have in two weeks. Long story short many tears were shed when we finally had to leave because they were closing so I'm sure we will have to go back again this trip.

Sights of Door County

Door County Trolley

Here we are getting ready to go on the Door County Trolley again this year. This was on Marshall's list of things we wanted to do on vacation this year. After this we are planning on headed to PC Junction for lunch. Apparently that lunch place was voted #1 location for families. It is a train inspired place so Clancey is going to really enjoy it I'm sure.

Pirate Dad

Every trip I take it's kind of my thing to have a goofy picture taken of me dressed up like something else. Here is the latest installment "Pirate Dad". As you can see I'm dressed up in a stylelish captains style coat that just screams I'm a douchebag. I topped that off with a pirate hat that says "I'm a chode". Hey I was having fun so it's alright. :)

Highlight for the Boys

Here is the highlight of the vacation for the boys so far. The adults wanted to head to the museum but the boys saw the play equipment and the museun quickly moved to the back of the list.

Toy Store and Candy Store

Here is a picture of Marshall looking longingly into the toy store wishing it would open soon. These are the two places that he really wanted to visit when we got to Fish Creek. I'm sure we will be back here today when they open so Marshall can pick out a treat :)

Morning Run

Here is a picture of me half way through my morning run. Let me just say the scenary is amazing.

Our Cottage

We finally made it to our cottage in Door County. I guess it really isn't that bad of drive only 6 hours but it does wear on you after a while. Since Marshall was still with Mema and Papa we only had Clancey so that really made the trip go a bit better. Never fails when one is fine the other is freaking out wanting out of the car. I am really looking forward to a relaxing week especially after all that happened earlier this week. By the way I did manage to fix my key fob so I'm less pissed at my car ;)

First Stop of the Day

Well we are having our first stop of the day on our way up to Door County. We stopped at this dirt parking area off of highway 151 near Columbus Wisconsin. We were afraid that after Clancey drank nearly a gallon of milk he would be soaked but he turned out not to be. Clancey is now out of the car running around and jumping apparently he is going to be a long jumper someday. Well we better get back on the road so we can make it to Fish Creek some time today.

Car Accident

Well today mema, papa, Marshall and Clancey got in a car accident on the way from Fort Dodge and Dolliver Park. They were just north of Fort Dodge when a dump truck decided to pull out in front of them and they slammed into the side at about 45-50 mile an hour. The boys were both asleep in the back of the car and woke up with quite a start when the car tires started to squel and they were then violantly slammed against their seatbelts. Everyone came out of the crash alright except for marks from their seatbelts and mema who had to stay here in the hospital for the night.

Update 7-16-2009:
Mema got out of the hospital this morning! She was pretty banged up from the accident yesturday but that didn't stop her from telling the driver of the dump truck what she thought of him ;) Poor little Clancey was a bit tramatized from the accident last night and this morning he keeps saying "Car, Truck, Boom!". Then he gestures trying to explain what happened with what little english he knows. Poor old Marshall is complaining that his chest still hurst from the seatbelt and apparently he broke his toe nail on his big toe but it could have been way worse. Dump Truck Vs. Neon and everyone walks aways you have to really be thankful. On a side note I sure hope they fire the idiot dump truck driver.

Donating Blood

Tonight Jen and I decided to head over to the local blood drive and donate. This was my first time donating blood so I was a little nervous but it wasn't too bad. I was thinking that I donated blood yet the hospital charges for it. Hmmm. How does that work out.

Breaking News: Clarence City Council Fires Police Chief

Last night was quite an eventful council meeting. The meeting started with a bunch of people coming to complain about our ordinance that makes people keep their yard looking reasonably nice. It's amazing how pissed people get when you ask them to keep there property looking nice. Tell someone they can't keep piles of broken down crap in their yard or broken down cars and boats and they come unglued. The quote of the night was "This is not Cedar Rapids I don't see why I can't have junk in my yard". The mayor did a good job of calming the situation down and moving on. The people then started to complain about the police chief and that he seems to be a bit over zealous in his enforcement of the law. At the time no one in the audience was aware we were going to fire him later. Once we got that calmed down we moved on. Things were pretty benign until we got to the discussion with the police chief. I don't know whether he knew was going to be let go or not but when we went to closed session I think he got the point. So we are without a police chief once again and I bet it will be harder to hire someone this time. I guess that's the way it is. When you have people who have never had any trouble with the law complaining about how our chief enforces it's time to move on. So that's what we did.

Great Concert

Jen and I just checked out of the Hotel and are waiting for our car to be brought around. Last night was one of the best concerts I've been too in a long time. Green Day does great at getting the audience involved in the show. They people on stage singing and playing guitar it was awesome. It also doesn't hurt that they have 16 years of hit songs to play. Normally when you go to a concert there is always those songs you just want them to get pasted but not last night. Every song was great and they kept the energy up all night long. When they come near us again Jen and I will definatly be at the show.

Concert Just Started

Message for the Boys

Here is a picture of the score board at the concert. Hopefully you can read it!

In the Arena

Well here we are in our seats for the concert. It is going to totally rock!

Heading to Green Day

Here is a picture of the Green Day Tour bus sitting just outside of our hotel. This will be the third time I've seen Green Day play live and if past expierence is any indication they will put on one hell of a show. It should be a damn good time.

Hotel Room

601 Graves

Jen and I just made it to our hotel in downtown Minneapolis for the Green Day concert tonight. Our hotel is right across the street from the Target Center where the concert is being held. This hotel is amazing probably one of the fanciest hotels I've ever stayed in. The picture above is the view from our 18th floor hotel room. I do have to admit that while it would have been nice to see everyone at the reunion today this trip is probably going to be way better.

On our way

We're headed to MNPLS for the Green Day concert!!!!

Marsh and Me

Here is a pic I took of Marsh and Me while we were eating our apples.

Maquoketa Caves

Marsh and I just arrived at Maquoketa caves to spend the afternoon exploring caves. Marshall is really excited so I better get moving.

After the Fire

Last night in Lowden there was a huge fire at an old school that now functions as an apartment complex. Fire trucks from 3 counties responded and cam fromas far away as Clinton and West Branch. Here is a picture of was remains of the building. I kind of felt wierd taking a picture of it considering the people who lived there were sitting outside giving a report to the police. No one got hurt but the building appears to be a total loss.

Lowden Fire

Tonight Jen and I were sitting here enjoying the night and nearly every fire truck in Cedar county came flying by our house headed towards Lowden. Turns out that there is a huge fire in a old school that has been turned into an apartment complex. Here is a picture that Jen pulled off the web.

This afternoon the family and I decided to go out and brave the weather to head to the 4th of July parade in Tipton. Marshall really wanted to go so he could get his tootsie roll stash refilled. Let's just say the parade didn't disappoint in that regard between Clancey and Marshall they got two huge bags of candy. I think both of the boys had a good time, now we are at home laying around and relaxing on this rainy afternoon.

Relaxing Around the Campfire

Suppers cooked, smores ate and now we're sitting around the campfire and relaxing. Marshall is having a really good time. He has said a couple times that he thinks he's dreaming because he has always wanted to go camping and sit around the fire. We've been camping before but we didn't have a cmp fire last time so this is techinically his first campfire. I guess I'm a really neglectful dad, 5 years old and never have expierenced a campfire. I guess I'll have to make sure Clancey does it a little sooner.

Hotdogs Over the Fire

Here is a picture of Marshall making his supper over the fire. He was pretty excited to be able to cook his own supper over the fire.

Marshall and I decided to go camping tonight. We ended up at a camp ground down by the river just south west of Tipton by about 10 miles. I'm surprised by how many people are out camping tonight. I thought Marshall and I would have the camp site to ourselves but turns out tonight is a very busy and we got one of the last spots. We between a bunch of campers taking up an electric site so I'm sure a camper will pull in later and be pissed. Oh well I guess that's just the way it is. I better get to starting the fire so Marshall and I can roast some hotdogs and make smores.

Looking for Sandals

Here we are at Target looking for a pair of sandals for Clancey. Toddlers do not really cooperate when it comes to trying shoes on. It most of the time turns into a huge fit. I think we've decided to not try and get him to try any on. He's more a shoe guy like daddy ;).
