Halloween Central

Here is the family posing by Jen Koth's house better known as Halloween central. Marshall was scared at first but he got brave and went up to the house.

More on Clancey's One Year Checkup

Well we just got out of Clancey's one year update and it went well. Clancey is developing well and the doctor even commented on how he try's to talk a lot more then other kids his age. Other then Jen and Dr. Gray noticing his left eye may be a little lazy every thing is great. The only real drama with the doctor appointment was when the whole family had to get flu shots including Marshall. Marshall is not a big fan of shots and started screaming like a banshee they finally gave it to him. I guess he's 4 and shots hurt so I really don't blame him. Now that we have that over it's time for Trick or Treating tonight :)

Clancey's One Year Update

Clancey's one year update he 31" on height which is 85th percentile, 25 lbs 6 oz which is 80th percentile, 18 1/4 inch head which is 50th percentile. Today he has to get 3 shots which I'm sure he won't like but so far his check up is going well.

Star Gazing with Marshall

Tonight when I got home after another long day of work I took Marshall out to look at the stars. Marshall is really interested in looking at the stars and everytime he points to one he asks if it's a sun or a planet. Tonight he was also asking what is on the other stars and planets. Well I told him that no one really knows for sure but it's likely that there are other people similar to us out there somewhere. Marshall then informed me that he really doesn't want to live on any other planets he would like to stay on Earth ;) The things Marshall knows never ceases to amaze me.

Gas Price Correction for Papa

Tonight when I came home gas was at $2.19 a gallon. If nothing else the poor economy is really good for gas prices :)

Just the Boys Tonight

Jen had to go to a meeting tonight so it's just the boys hanging out at home tonight. We've been watching cartoons, listening to music, dancing, and eating cookies. I think shortly we will start playing video games. We do all the boy things that mommy gets after us for ;) Here are some pictures of our night so far.

Gas Price for Papa

Since Papa is always following gas prices I thought I would put an update up to let him know that gas prices over here in Cedar Rapids are $2.25 a gallon.

Getting Excited for Christmas

I know, I know it's not even Halloween yet how can I possibly be thinking about Christmas. Well too bad Halloween I'm ready for Christmas. The big meals, the time off from work, hanging with the boys what is not to look forward to. With a light snow on Sunday and lots of family over celebrating Clancey's birthday it really felt like the beginning of the holiday season. So lets get through Halloween so we can get to the Christmas Season :)

Papa's Special Gift

Papa made this special wooden rocking horse for Clancey with an engraved C and all. Papa makes special presents for both boys for every holiday. When they get older they are going to really appreciate these gifts. This really makes me wish I was more handy.

Well it's finally present time and both Marsh and Clancey are way excited. I better hustle and get it out of the box.

Mom of the Year

Most mom's would just go to the store and buy both a present and cake but not Jen. Not only is she hosting a house full of people but she decided to make Clancey's cake and present today also. I brought up the idea of buying a cake and she was offended, she said no son of hers is going to eat a store bought cake on his birthday. I'll tell you what Jen is something else.

Clancey's Birthday Table

Here's a picture of the table Jen decorated for Clancey's birthday party tomorrow. Jen is the master at finding plants in the yard to decorate with. Just like always I'm certain Jen will put on a great party tomorrow.

I Hate Spyware

A better part of today is going to be spent fixing my computer because I accidentally happened upon some spyware in my travels through the web. Being a programming myself I really would love to understand the motivation of people who write spyware. It just doesn't make any sense, to pour your heart and soul into writing crappy software to break people's computer. Come on people, if your going to write software to wreck people's computer at least man up and write a real virus. I'm sure if I sat down and put my mind to it I could write a crappy piece of spyware but the real art is in writing a good old virus in assembly no less. One that secretly attaches itself to unsuspecting files and moves from system to system causing choas, now that takes some real skill.

Daddy can we go to Bed

Tonight Marshall asked if he could do the fish puzzle. I said sure we can sit down and do the puzzle together. Its only 100 pieces how long ca, it take. We started at 7:00 and I figured right around 30 minutes we would be down. Well after an hour and a half and many "Daddy can we go to bed" we finally got finished. Marshall actually started to get concerned the sun would come up.

Marshall Corrects Me

Today on the way into the doctors office I was explaining some basic concepts of computer graphics to Marshall. Being I have worked with computer graphics for more then 15 years and I do it for a living I fancy myself somewhat of an expert. Well after telling Marshall you can use Red/Green/Blue to create any color in the rainbow he decided to ask what about white and black. I was stumped for a moment and said I suppose your right Marshall ;).

Fun at the Doctors Office

I think every doctors office on earth has one of these toys and it seems to be universally enjoyed by kids of all ages. Clancey was having so much fun he was yelling with glee. I'm afraid when we try and leave tears will be shed because the kids can't take it with them.

Putting Books on the Shelves

Tonight we started to put books on our new shelves. We have to thank papa for all the hard work he put in over the past 9 months. I didn't realize how many books we had until we started to put them on the shelves. It is going to be great to be able to look at any of our books anytime we want. Most of these books have shoved in boxes since we moved to Cedar Rapids 8 years ago.

Country Cemetary

Jen had me stop at the old country cemetary just south of Tipton as we were out exploring the county. She really finds it interesting to see the dates and names. It is a good way to find out who is really "from" the area ;).

Red Oak Park

Jen wanted to get out of the house for a little while this afternoon so we headed to Red Oak Park just north of Tipton. Red Oak Park is a county park that is kind of in the middle of nowhere and could really use some love. The merry go round is rusty and the swing don't look like they see much use but it is a nice little park none the less. Jen wanted to look for some acorns for some fall crafting projects so this is a pretty good place for that.

Marshall and Daddy Fly a Kite

Today with it being a nice and windy day Marshall and I decide to fly a kite. After a couple crashes and getting the string stuck in a tree we finally got it airborn. Marshall was pretty excited about his kite flying expierence.

Clancey Starting to Take Steps

Tonight as we were playing together in the living room Clancey started to take some steps. He has been standing by himself and balancing for a couple weeks now and even taking a single step but tonight he took 4 steps in a row. He would fall down and stand back up and try again. I don't think it's going to be too long before he is running around the house and causing trouble. I can't wait.

After Marsh and I went to the Tipton swimming pool we decided to hit the DQ for a snack. Marsh got a chocolate cone and I, of course, got a vanilla. We also decided it would be a good idea to share a cheeseburger. Hopefully I didn't spoil supper for Marsh.

This first time I've been back to Madison since the Ironman so I am reminising a little about the race, I'm sure Jen is sick of hearing about it ;).

Last night after the career fair and dinner a group of us decided to take some candidates out to the local watering holes. Interviews are in Full Force

Well today is my last day at Rose-Hulman and I'm spending the day interviewing candidates. I've been interview candidates since 7:00am central time today and it's gone fairly well. Rose puts out some outstanding students. There have been times in interviews that I knew I was sitting across the table from someone who is likely going to be my boss someday but it is that kind of candidate that is going to make Rockwell that much better.

Breakfast at Ihop

This morning before I head over to Rose-Hulman for interviews I decided to stop at Ihop. While I'm a big fan of Ihop I wish they would change the name of my favorite breakfast from "Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity", I kind of feel wierd when I say it ;).

Career Fair Over

I'm done at the career fair and getting ready for a full day of interviews tomorrow. I don't envy the students at all. Spending time at the career fair and doing interviews can be a rather stressful time and I'm glad I'm done with it. I have to say most of the kids I talked to where amazingly smart and had very impressive resumes.

Almost to Terre Haute

I was hoping to be in Terre Haute by now but my blackberry decided to take me on a little detour. Ok, ok, I can't totally blame the blackberry I was belting out some in car karoke action and wasn't paying attention to where I was supposed to be going. So after a quick detour down highway 133 I'm finally in Paris, Illinios and only about 20 miles away. Hopefully I can find it from here ;).

In Illinios

I'm just inside Illinios on my 6 hour trek to Terre Haute. I decided to stop at the Krisdala Baka rest which apparently is a Swedish word for something about the early settlers, if you can't tell I didn't read the sign that close ;). I'll probably stop for lunch in Peoria I'll update again when I get there.

Shipped off to Indiana

Once again I'm being shipped off by mother Rockwell. This time I'm headed to Terre Haute, Indiana to represent Rockwell Collins at a career fair. Although I really don't mind traveling I do have to say heading out twice in one month with a week in between is a little much. I guess I can't complain too much, my last trip was almost like a mini-vacation, all expensed which is a pretty good gig.

Playing Chess with Marshall

This afternoon I sat down and taught Marshall how to play chess. It's kind of a complecated game for a 4 year old but he's picking it up well enough. Maybe in a few years he will be the next Bobby Fisher, except for the whole becoming a wierdo thing ;).

These SNL Palin videos are funny as heck I had to put a link from my blog.

Spoke To Soon

I knew the second that I put that last blog up that I would probably end up regretting it. Turns out I did and probably jinxed the Clones as a result. If nothing else at least the Hawks lost too so the day wasn't a total loss.

Cyclones Winning, Hawkeyes Losing

I will probably end up regretting this post at the end of the day but right now the Clones are beating number 16 Kansas Jayhawks. It also happens that the Hawks are losing right now in the 3rd. This could really turn out to be a good day. Any day the Clones beat a ranked opponent and Hawks look like crap is a good day :). Let's just hope it ends this way.

Looking for Family Picture Clothes

This morning we headed into CR to get groceries and find clothes for our family pictures next week. I'm sure Jen and I will disagree on my outfit because she constantly wants to dress me pastel colors, i.e. wussy clothes, while I prefer the darks. I guess we will see how it goes. I suspect we will compromise and she will get her way.

Park Board Meeting

Tonight I had a Clarence Park Board meeting at city hall. Nothing real exciting happened but we did get a chance to talk about the new park land. After nearly a year of the land sitting idle we finally have started moving on getting things done out there. We've purchased grass seed and gotten the land seeded down and we've even had some grass start to peek through. We've also started developing both a soccer field and flag football field. I know Marshall is very excited about the prospect of being able to be on a soccer team next year. Although I'm thinking I'm probably going to get suckered into being a soccer coach but I guess that's the way it is in small towns. As a park board we have also tossed around the idea of building a fishing pond out at the park too. Now I suspect there will be a fair share of naysayers and people who are worred about "liability", which is the mantra of everyone anytime anything remotely dangerous is brought up, but I have to say I think it's a great idea. Being a former skater I'm also a fan of building a skatepark out at the park also but that is pretty unpopular idea amongst the townsfolk at large. Just remember everyone "Skating is not a crime"
